Introduction

In the healthcare domain, we develop innovative solutions in healthcare related to both global medical needs as well as for India. Our approach is to get an in-depth view of healthcare delivery in the emerging markets, understand the needs of patients, healthcare workers and hospital administrators for purposes including screening, diagnosis and disease management and come up with affordable solutions. One set of solutions aims at new screening and diagnostic methods for inborn errors of metabolism in neonates. Another key area aims at early screening of heart diseases, analyzing physiological signals emitted by the heart, while yet another area aims at monitoring the condition of a baby in the mother’s womb to signal any early sign of distress. We also envisage the use of digital pathology enabled by advanced pattern recognition to modernize clinical diagnostics of infectious and non-infectious diseases. We accomplish this by clinical and theoretical investigations, computational system evaluation, simulations and measurements on input data and realized models in an open-innovation environment with research and clinical partners in India as well as China, Europe and USA.

In the Energy and Lighting space, working closely with Philips strategy and business development – India, we develop energy management solutions catering to the needs of households in India. We also have the ambition to research novel solutions in the energy space in India by gaining deep insights into consumer problems.

While the core technology teams work to develop radical technologies needed to address the identified consumer needs, the Business Development team in PRA-B works closely with them to bring these innovations to the market. This is executed with a corporate venturing mindset of leveraging the company’s assets wherever necessary and adopting new processes and methods to bring the disruptive innovations to market.
